Weight

  • The towing limit of the Kia is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 64%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 70%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 85 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 209 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is more than sufficient.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a good match, sometimes with some limitations in the mountains.

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Mike reviewed a Kia Carnival 2.9 CRDi aut.:

"Towing Bessacarr 635 with Kia Sedona Auto 2.9crdi 2005 model. This is a cheap tow car compared with others. Nice and comfy with loads of room. However, it seemed to work hard pulling the caravan and was unstable at about 60mph. Felt OK at 55mph. Revved hard up hill and brakes felt poor going down hill. Also had problems with power steering failing, overheating, alternator (£500 replacement). I didn't feel confident with the Kia so got rid of the it and gone for Mercedes ML 2.7 auto. You get what you pay for."
