Weight

  • The towing limit of the BMW is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 70%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 78%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 75 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 62 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 187 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is very good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Steve Klimaytys reviewed a BMW 530i aut.:

"Forget a diesel!!! Get a BMW 530i. (2001 auto sport) The torque is excellent (280 Nm) and cruises along motorways and most other roads including mild inclines without changing the auto box down. Steeper hills and the auto box does not over rev the engine like many cars.
The 3 litre engine delivers around 23mpg fully loaded which is excellent for a petrol engine. There is another advantage to the BMW 530i - a new tow hitch costs circa #340 with single electrics. BMW quoted me #1200 What??
I cannot fault this vehicle, Minor service is #120 at BMW and major service every 3 years is #450.
Excellent"
