Weight

  • The towing limit of the Suzuki is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 67%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 79%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 60 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 215 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is sufficient.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a good match, sometimes with some limitations in the mountains.

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Marc Rattue reviewed a Suzuki Jimny 1.3 16v:

"Very glad I came across this excellent site. I was worried about the way my Jimny required 4000revs plus at times to get up hills when towing, but I see that this is as expected, and to be fair to the car, the temperature needle has never budged, so it seems happy with it. You just have to get accustomed to the sound of the engine pitch at that those revolutions from time to time. I have looked at more powerful cars for towing, but a Tab360 and Jimny are such a great looking combination, and for me, complement each others small but spirited and adventurous characters perfectly! Fairly new to towing, and don't have anyone to advise, so very grateful for the info on this site.

Happy Towing!

Marc"
