Weight

  • The towing limit of the Audi is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E (or B96) driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 73%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 81%.
  • There is a small chance of snaking at higher speeds, strong side winds and thoughtless driving. Even if the combination normally feels stable, the forces by deflection side to side are great at high speed. For drivers with knowledge of, and experience in driving a caravan it is safe to drive, but proper and careful loading is still important! An electronic stability system in the car and / or on the caravan is worth considering.
  • Recommended noseweight is 85 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 56 mph (90 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 162 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is very good.
  • If the caravan is well loaded safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Billy Boland reviewed a Audi Allroad 2.5 TDI Quattro aut.:

"The Audi Allroad 2.5 Tdi, Audi's Creme Da La Creme, had the others, Merc 270 and a 320 E class, Beemer 5 series, seriously not in the same league as my Allroad. After having it remapped up from 180 to 230 bhp and the torque increased up to 480 Nm this car pulls like a train, I really don't know that I am pulling a twin Axle Lunar Ti.
At 70 plus on motorways the caravan follows the car like a tail follows the dog. The car is also rock steady, not affected by side winds or high sided vehicles. Mainly because I can accelerate past the trucks very swiftly. Going uphill poses no problems what so ever, as I pass other caravanners struggling to maintain 55 mph up hill I glance over to see look of disbelief (as I pass them doing 70) on their face that such a large mass of caravan is being pulled with such great ease up a hill by a vehicle which is basically an estate car.
If you want the best of both worlds, a 4X4 (without the bulk of a 4X4) and a roomy estate car, there is only one to buy, an Audi Allroad, remember to get it remapped) (Quantum Tuning)
