Actual Weights

Performance

Weight

  • The towing limit of the Opel is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 13%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 15%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 50 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 342 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is more than sufficient.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Paul reviewed a Opel Meriva 1.6:

"Fairly lively performance, we are towing a 1992 Lunar Meteorite s, as a novice to towing the car handles the van well, 1 notice the gradients on the motorway, and on occasions have to move down to 4th to maintain speed, on the motor slip way just gave it s little extra rev to be on the safe side but no problems, as i s a novice to towing i just found i had to use the gearbox more than normal driving to maintain speeds, the van felt comfortable to tow we have a hitch stabilser attached. looking forward to our next outing"
