Weight

The Isuzu Rodeo Pickup DC - 3.0 TD aut. with a Swift Challenger 480 with an actual weight of 1391 kg is a match suitable for most journeys, sometimes with some limitations.

The motor preformance of the Isuzu is in general sufficient. And also the weight of the Swift with a normally distributed User Payload (200 kg in the caravan and 200 kg in the car including passengers), is very good.

Weight

  • The towing limit of the Isuzu is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 64%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 70%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 75 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 62 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 193 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is sufficient.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a good match, sometimes with some limitations.

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Mathew Cook reviewed a Isuzu Rodeo Pickup DC - 3.0 TD aut.:

"I've had my Isuzu Rodeo Pickup 3.0 TD auto for 5 years now and been towing a Geist Xklusive 630 since the summer. I have not had any experience towing before and lucky for me it's a dream with the Isuzu, it cruises nicely between 60 - 70mph, although was a little sluggish in the Lakes on the 17% and 25% gradients 25mph tops! apart from that no issues!"
