Weight

The Hyundai Getz 1.4i with a Eriba Touring Puck 120 GT with an actual weight of 690 kg is in general a good match and suitable for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

The motor preformance of the Hyundai is in general fairly good. And also the weight of the Eriba with a normally distributed User Payload (200 kg in the caravan and 200 kg in the car including passengers), is very good.

Weight

  • The towing limit of the Hyundai is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 53%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 63%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 50 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 266 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is fairly good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Chris Hawkesworth reviewed a Hyundai Getz 1.4i:

"We took delivery of our Eriba Puck 120GT last august from autoleisure in Poole Dorset. We live in peterborough Cambs so we had a little bit of a journey to pick up our Eriba. we arrived after following autoleisure's directions and hooked up the puck to our Hyundai Getz and of we set to a nearby campsite about 6 miles away it didn't take very long to appreciate how well the little Puck towed we had to keep looking behind just to make sure it was still there, pulling away at traffic lights and round abouts was just the same as driving the car normally but we did allow just a bit more time when pulling off. After our overnight stay which was very comfortable we set off home to Peterborough. On leaving Poole we headed towards Ringwood and then on the motorway towards the west side of London picking up the M25 we followed it around until we picked up the A1 north we covered about 179 miles with the Puck behaving perfectly all the way even when being overtaken by lorries and coaches the little van didn't snake or wander at all it was a very pleasant journey and also I might mention this was the first time for some years I had towed a caravan. So my thoughts on towing an Eriba Puck 120GT with a small car such as the Hyundai Getz 1.4. Manual. Both my wife and I found it to be a nice combination in performance and stress free towing we travelled on Motorways and A and B roads and thru towns without any fuss from the car or Puck we managed to cruise in 5th gear on the motorways and the car pulled well when we over took other vehicles. Yes we did over take a few, So all I can say is if you would like a small but very well made and thought out caravan and you don't have a 4X4 or tank to tow with then please do take a look at the Eriba range of vans. by the way we averaged out the fuel with mixed towing to be around 34 to 35 MPG with two adults- luggage-bottled gas-spare wheel as supplied with the Puck and plenty of food."
