Weight

  • The towing limit of the Mercedes-Benz is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 61%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 70%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 65 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 233 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is fairly good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Peter E reviewed a Mercedes-Benz A 180 CDI aut.:

"The A180 diesel automatic, when coupled to a small caravan like this, is the most effortless drive imaginable. Hill starts and touring up and down the Alps present no issue. The T@B rides on very wide wheels, has a long drawbar and is fitted with a stabiliser hitch. The short tail overhang on the Mercedes adds to the equation: a more steady combination is hard to imagine. Fuel economy dips from around 48-50mpg solo to 28-30mph towing. Cruising at 70mph is no problem. At 60mph the unit is completely effortless. "
