Weight

  • The towing limit of the Kia is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 72%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 82%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 70 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 186 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is more than sufficient.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Brian reviewed a Kia Cee-d SW 1.6 CRDi vgt hp:

"After much research I traded my Pug 406 for the Kia knowing that 'on paper' it was up to the job. I have not been disappointed at all. Solo the performance is fine & towing at legal speeds with economy in mind puts no strain on the vehicle. The gearbox doe's have to be worked though as the car is very intolerant of being left too long in higher gear. I prefer not to use cruise control as the norm on motorways as this proves uneconomical. Although we are happy with our modest 2 berth matched with the Kia ceed sw,(at 81%) the choice of vans within it's towing capacity is very limited.I cannot fault the car which is almost a year old & still has SIX years warranty which I hope to outlive!
