Verdict

The Renault Koleos 2.0 dCi [4WD] and the Abbey Aventura 318 of a laden weight of 1404 kg is an excellent combination for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

Weight

The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.

Flat roads

The performances of the engine of this outfit are in general very good. Under all conditions on motorways it is possible to drive with 60 mph in the 6th gear. In that case the engine runs approximately 2000 rpm. In a headwind or for example on a crossover there is no need to downshift immediately.

Mountains

On most motorways inclines (1:20) driving is easily possible in the 5th gear with 50 mph and even full throttle with 60 mph but maybe the engine is running better by somewhat more revs in the 4th gear). In the 4th gear the top speed is 70 mph (3752 rpm). Hill starts are possible on steep slopes up to 25%. While driving the engine has enough power to drive on every normal road.

Attention: This car can easily drive much faster with the caravan than is safe. So always keep an eye on your speed!

The Renault towing a Abbey Aventura 318 (1404) kg reviewed by jason:

perfect

i have been towing for over 12 years on many cars ,e class mercs, c class mercs ,freelander and x trails which of course led me to the koleos as they are cheaper then the x trail to pick up even though they are very much the same car underneath but are just so much better in looks .
as you can see i change my cars a lot but 3 years on im strugglng to give any reason as to why i should change i tow all over france and can do so with ease and in 6th gear for long spells returning 28/30 mpg whilst while using to commute every day around 40 milesi avererage around 42 mpg i simply can not find another car that ticks so many boxes whilst towing i would say its the best one i have towed with stable solid ultra relieability and comfortable

9/10
