The Landrover Discovery Sport TD4 180 aut. and the Sterling Europa 565 of a laden weight of 1576 kg is an excellent combination for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

There is a small chance of snaking at higher speeds, strong side winds and thoughtless driving. Even if the combination normally feels stable, the forces by deflection side to side are great at high speed. For drivers with knowledge of, and experience in driving a caravan it is safe to drive, but proper and careful loading is still important! An electronic stability system in the car and / or on the caravan is worth considering.

Flat roads

The performances of the engine of this outfit are in general very good. Under all conditions on motorways it is possible to drive with 60 mph in the 7th gear. In that case the engine runs approximately 2000 rpm. In a headwind or for example on a crossover there is no need to downshift immediately.

On most motorways inclines (1:20) driving is easily possible in the 6th gear with 50 mph and even full throttle with 55 mph but maybe the engine is running better by somewhat more revs in the 5th gear). In the 5th gear the top speed is 68 mph (3238 rpm). Hill starts are possible on steep slopes, theoretical up to 51%, if the wheels have sufficient traction. Because the car does not have enough power at low revs, we recommend a gradient of more than 40% not to drive.

Attention: This car can easily drive much faster with the caravan than is safe. So always keep an eye on your speed!

The Landrover towing a Geist Xklusive XK550 (1533) kg reviewed by Gary Satterthwaite:

Land Rover Discovery Sport Landmark easily towed our Geist caravan, tested it on the long inclines of the M6 in Cumbria and the undulating roads from Ingleton to Hawes in North Yorkshire, Only time you knew the van was on the back was when you checked in the mirror, rock steady, good hard suspension that refused to move no matter what, torqey engine and auto box a great match and despite what I had read about not getting into 9th gear on the motorway, it did just that and only dropped a cog or 2 at most on steep inclines. What amazed me most was the excellent refinement of this engine, super hushed at all times, MPG 22-24 a little on the low side, but still only got 1200 miles on the clock, it should avg about 25 towing overall on mixture of country and motorway roads, I'll be happy with that. I wholeheartedly recommend this Land Rover as a towcar, it beats my 2012 BMW X5 and that is saying something.

The Landrover towing a Sterling Europa 565 (1576) kg reviewed by Stuart Scott:

Towed our caravan for the first time, with our Land Rover Discovery Sport, on our travels to Cornwall. We travelled through the night and the weather conditions were pretty horrendous, with strong winds and heavy rain. However, the car performed impeccably well, coping with the side wind and steep uphill gradients on the A30. The caravan has a MTPLM of1490kg, plus we had 4 roof mounted mountain bikes on the car. I would highly recommend this particular vehicle as a towcar.
