Verdict
The Peugeot 5008 1.6 e-THP aut. and the Coachman Pastiche 470 of a laden weight of 1320 kg is an excellent combination for all journeys on all kinds of roads.
Weight
There is a small chance of snaking at higher speeds, strong side winds and thoughtless driving. Even if the combination normally feels stable, the forces by deflection side to side are great at high speed. For drivers with knowledge of, and experience in driving a caravan it is safe to drive, but proper and careful loading is still important! An electronic stability system in the car and / or on the caravan is worth considering.
Flat roads
The performances of the engine of this outfit are in general good. Under most conditions on motorways it is possible to drive with 60 mph in the 5th gear. In that case the engine runs approximately 2300 rpm, this gives maybe more noise than usually accustomed In a headwind or for example on a crossover there is no need to downshift immediately.
Mountains
On most motorways inclines (1:20) driving is easily possible in the 4th gear with 50 mph and even full throttle with 53 mph. In the 3th gear the top speed is 72 mph (5102 rpm). Hill starts are possible on steep slopes, theoretical up to 31%, if the wheels have sufficient traction. Because the car does not have enough power at low revs, we recommend a gradient of more than 27% not to drive.

Attention: This car can easily drive much faster with the caravan than is safe. So always keep an eye on your speed!

The Peugeot towing a
Coachman Pastiche 470 (1320) kg reviewed by Clive:
Follow-up to earlier review. Have covered over 1000 miles since first issues experienced and pleased to report all is good with no further problems. Fuel consumption has improved slightly on motorways and at 60mph returning 27mpg with no air con running, this is improved further when on A class roads at 40-50 mph returning 30mpg. I have noticed it's a little twitchy when towing at speed in high winds but then many outfits are.
The Peugeot towing a
Coachman Pastiche 470 (1320) kg reviewed by Clive:
Early findings having only been out on three occasions and covered circa 300 miles.
First time with caravan and within several miles noticed a burning smell. This has not been repeated so working under the premise that the car being one year old, low milage and never under load before was burning off some new car smells.
The second outing was uneventful but reassuring as it towed very well on a wide range of roads in largely heavy traffic.
The third trip went well for the first 100 miles and then an engine ‘stutter’ resulted in red spanner symbol and engine management warning to seek assistance. The code was identified as ‘fuel rail sensor/system low pressure warning’. In fairness this was a very hot day with air con running at high speed.
A Peugeot dealer carried out investigation and was unable to find a fault. With the system reset the following 100 miles solo has not seen any issues.
The positives of this vehicle are its size and practicalities for two persons, two large dogs and awning. Elevating the low payload of the caravan.
The challenges are to get the nose weight down to 72kgs and being a 1.6 petrol automatic fuel consumption is lower than hoped for or expected at 25mpg.
