Mercedes-Benz A

Mercedes-Benz A 180 CDI aut. and T@B

Peter E reviewed on 03 October 2013 a Mercedes-Benz A 180 CDI aut. (109 PS/80 Kw, Year: 2005 - 2012) with a T@B 320 Chic of 800 kg.

The A180 diesel automatic, when coupled to a small caravan like this, is the most effortless drive imaginable. Hill starts and touring up and down the Alps present no issue. The T@B rides on very wide wheels, has a long drawbar and is fitted with a stabiliser hitch. The short tail overhang on the Mercedes adds to the equation: a more steady combination is hard to imagine. Fuel economy dips from around 48-50mpg solo to 28-30mph towing. Cruising at 70mph is no problem. At 60mph the unit is completely effortless.

A class auto towing a Bailey Orion 400/2, found towing very stable, relaxed drive, average 30mpg and steady when overtaken by HGV's.

Mercedes-Benz A 180 CDI aut. and Lunar

Alan bicknell reviewed on 20 July 2011 a Mercedes-Benz A 180 CDI aut. (109 PS/80 Kw, Year: 2005 - 2012) with a Lunar Ariva of 980 kg.

A class auto replaced Megane auto for pulling my Ariva. First 100 mile tow in windy conditions gave good consumption a steady tow and relaxed drive usually in cruise control. Steady when overtaken by HGV's.

Mercedes-Benz A 160 CDI BlueEfficiency and Sterckeman

Paul reviewed on 15 November 2010 a Mercedes-Benz A 160 CDI BlueEfficiency (82 PS/60 Kw, Year: 2009 - 2012) with a Sterckeman Starlett 390 CP of 965 kg.

The A160 CDI is never going to be a powerful car, however I find it extremely sure footed and a solid tower, even in strong cross winds, the rig hardly twitches. Admitidly you do have to use the gear box to keep a constant speed up and down hills and if you are prepared to do this, it still returns a fairly heathy 40mpg on a long run.

Mercedes-Benz A 150 and Ace

David Haigh reviewed on 03 February 2008 a Mercedes-Benz A 150 (95 PS/70 Kw, Year: 2004 - 2009) with a Ace Jubilee Diplomat of 1100 kg.

The mercerdes A150 3 door will push along on the motorway ok but on long uphill you need to use 4th or even 3rd gear, mpg was about 28mpg when towing on mway but i would say that all in all it is a little under powered but very stable towing i am looking to change to Kia rio diesel
