Weight

The Kia Niro 1.6 GDi PHEV with a Fendt Bianco 390 FH Selection with an actual weight of 1294 kg is in general a good match and suitable for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

The motor preformance of the Kia is in general just sufficient. And also the weight of the Fendt with a normally distributed User Payload (200 kg in the caravan and 200 kg in the car including passengers), is good.

Attention

The Kia is a hybrid car. The calculated performance depends on the amount of power available in the battery. The advice and performance are based on average use where there is still a small amount of power in the battery.

Also make a calculation of the Kia on the fuel engine only in case the battery is empty.

Weight

  • The towing limit of the Kia is sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 71%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 80%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 75 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 188 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is just sufficient.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Poul Erik Lind Pedersen reviewed a Kia Niro 1.6 GDi PHEV:

"I have done between 4000 and 5000 km. in my Kia Niro PHEV towing a Fendt Bianco 390FH of 1300 kg., and I can honestly say, that the result shown on this website is too optimistic. It's true, that as long as there is power on the battery everything is fine. The problem is, that the battery power is used very quickly - especially in a strong headwind. It has to be driven at high revs (over 3000) at all times to keep the battery charged. In strong headwinds it is impossible to keep the battery charged. When the battery power is used up, the ICE is way too weak. Other than that, it's a fantastic car."
