Weight

  • The towing limit of the Citroen is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • The car is too heavily loaded.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 70%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 78%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 75 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 62 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 187 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is fairly good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Kev Spruce reviewed a Citroen C5 Break 2.2 HDI [5MT]:

"Extremely comfortable peformance with this outfit, the caravan is actually a '94 Swift Lifestyle 495 unladen weight 1210kg. Power, but more importantly torque, of this superb HDi motor are a welcome addition to the so important self levelling Hydractive suspension. We drive our outfit to the far reaches of Europe annually and have never experienced any towing disappointments from this rig. Just as important though is that the C5 is very reasonable to run as an everyday car, having low emissions (cheaper road tax), reliability, long service intervals, cheap service spares and very good mpg for a 2.2. I average 46 solo and 30'ish towing at 60mph. The later higher power 2.2 being even better I belive. Highly recommended if you want comfort, power and economy on a budget. The C5 is unrivalled in the value for money stakes and a great towcar."
