Weight

The Peugeot 306 2.0 HDI with a Delta Aero 3900 with an actual weight of 1000 kg is in general a good match and suitable for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

The motor preformance of the Peugeot is in general sufficient. And also the weight of the Delta with a normally distributed User Payload (200 kg in the caravan and 200 kg in the car including passengers), is good.

Weight

  • The towing limit of the Peugeot is sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 71%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 83%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 65 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 60 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 191 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is sufficient.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

PAUL reviewed a Peugeot 306 2.0 HDI:

"I have a Peugeot 306 estate 2.0hdi towing a Pennine Pathfinder 600 Folding Camper.Empty weight 850kg,fully laden 1000kg.Have travelled many miles and have found the car to be fantastic, being totally reliable so far. With the van being only 1.40 metres high i have no drag and no wobble (use alko stabilizer) at any speeds up to 60mph, even when being passed by lorries etc.Driving at a steady 55-60mph it's returning approx 43 to the gallon and rarely do i need to come out of 5th gear when on the motorway"
