Weight

The Kia Carnival 2.9 CRDi aut. with a Lunar Lexon 640 with an actual weight of 1475 kg is in general a good match and suitable for journeys on most kinds of roads, sometimes with some limitations in the mountains.

The motor preformance of the Kia is in general more than sufficient. And also the weight of the Lunar with a normally distributed User Payload (200 kg in the caravan and 200 kg in the car including passengers), is very good.

Weight

  • The towing limit of the Kia is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 61%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 66%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.

  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a good match, sometimes with some limitations in the mountains.

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Mike reviewed a Kia Carnival 2.9 CRDi aut.:

"Towing Bessacarr 635 with Kia Sedona Auto 2.9crdi 2005 model. This is a cheap tow car compared with others. Nice and comfy with loads of room. However, it seemed to work hard pulling the caravan and was unstable at about 60mph. Felt OK at 55mph. Revved hard up hill and brakes felt poor going down hill. Also had problems with power steering failing, overheating, alternator (£500 replacement). I didn't feel confident with the Kia so got rid of the it and gone for Mercedes ML 2.7 auto. You get what you pay for."
