Weight

  • The towing limit of the Kia is sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 70%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 79%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 60 - 70 kg.
  • Towball limit is 50 kg (Check this on the type plate of your towbar!)
  • Safe speed up to 62 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 182 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is more than sufficient.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Allan Toop reviewed a Kia Carens 2.0 CRDi aut.:

"The car and caravan are theoretically a good match and I have found them so in practice. The auto box is very relaxing and copes easily with anything I've asked of it. It is especaily good for manouvering, and a relief in slow traffic. Having said that I find it a bit heavy on fuel (about 30 towing and 42 solo, but it's a cheap car to buy and carries everything we need when the two of us toddleoff on holiday. It has also been amazingly reliable to date. I would prefer something a bit more economical but am happy to stay with things as they are for the time being."
