Weight

  • The towing limit of the Opel is sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E (or B96) driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 69%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 77%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 75 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 62 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 186 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is fairly good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Andy reviewed a Opel Zafira 1.9 CDTi:

"What ever you do, do not tow with a Zafira, I had it from new and has done 106000, and thats all it will be doing as its now scrap. This car like other Vauxhalss had been fitted with the M32 gearbox, which has over 25 variants, just shows how long it took vauxhalll to get one to work properly. the bearings in the box have melted, the duel mass flywheel has also gone, leaving me with a bill of over 2K, it isn't woth much more than that even though it is a 2007 1.9 cdt1 120bhp. I loved this car, now I'm carless and about to become skint in trying to find another motor that wont go bang when towing, a light caravan too I might add. Gutted.....
You have been warned, DONT TOW WITH A ZAFIRA!"
