Weight

  • The towing limit of the Kia is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • The car is too heavily loaded.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 73%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 80%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 85 - 95 kg.
  • Towball limit is 75 kg (Check this on the type plate of your towbar!)
  • Safe speed up to 62 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 175 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is fairly good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Rachel Wallis reviewed a Kia Carnival 2.9 CRDi VGT:

"I own the 2.2 crdi Sedona, had it since 2010. I have been towing with this car since a week after I bought it. Never missed a beat, amazingly stable as others have mentioned, not bothered by side winds or lorrys over taking. I get around 38mpg towing and up to 50mpg solo. When its not towing its going to dog shows, and I've cloclocked up 50k miles in 2 years, and not one single problem! It's love it, won't be selling it either! "
