Weight

The towing limit is exceeded by 40 kg!
It is not allowed to drive with this Adria.
Make sure the towing limit is correct.

We now give advice based on the assumption that the legal maximum towing weight is higher for your car and that the car should be allowed to tow this caravan!

The Opel Zafira 1.7 CDTi with a Adria Altea Trent with an actual weight of 1340 kg is in general a good match and suitable for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

The motor preformance of the Opel is in general more than sufficient. And also the weight of the Adria with a normally distributed User Payload (200 kg in the caravan and 200 kg in the car including passengers), is pretty good.

Weight

  • The towing limit is exceeded by 40 kg (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • The caravan is too heavily loaded.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 74%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 83%.
  • There is a small chance of snaking at higher speeds, strong side winds and thoughtless driving. Even if the combination normally feels stable, the forces by deflection side to side are great at high speed. For drivers with knowledge of, and experience in driving a caravan it is safe to drive, but proper and careful loading is still important! An electronic stability system in the car and / or on the caravan is worth considering.
  • Recommended noseweight is 75 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 56 mph (90 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 161 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is more than sufficient.
  • If the caravan is well loaded safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Garry from Derby Uk reviewed a Opel Zafira 1.7 CDTi:

"Vauxhall zafira 1.7dci (110bhp) towing a Swift Ace Ambassador 1200kilo which is a special edition by Swift based on a Sprite Alpine 2 berth.
I've been using this combination since February this year (2016) & we have been down to the south west , up to north Yorkshire coast & across to North Norfolk plus various local peak district & it's been a total pleasure to use .
I did wonder if the 110 bhp would be strong enough & did look for a 125bhp model but why did I ever worry , it's taken everything in it's stride , even the A38 hill past Exeter racecourse .
As for consumption , I must be lucky some people have said they are getting around 20 mpg , I can honestly say I'm getting high twenties 28 to max 34 mpg & solo driving 49 + mpg .
All in all I just can't fault it , the more I drive it , the better it gets its on a 2012 plate & just done 21500 miles ex mobility car ."
