Weight

  • The towing limit of the Opel is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E (or B96) driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 61%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 68%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 70 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 217 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is very good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

User Reviews

S Bates reviewed a Opel Zafira 2.0 CDTi Ecoflex aut. [5-seats]:

"I am new to caravaning, we have done 3 trips from Sheffield to Scotland and back in 4 weekends and the Zafira does everything required of it with ease. The cruise control and auto box took all the strain out of driving and made the long motorway hauls easy to deal with. Local roads were dealt with easily and there was a a reserve of power if required. This car meets all of our needs as far as caravaning is concerned. Unless you intend to drive up and down farm tracks it should meet yours too."
