Weight

  • The towing limit of the Ssangyong is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 62%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 68%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 85 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 62 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 203 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

John Mitchell reviewed a Ssangyong Rodius 2.0 Xdi aut. [4WD]:

"It's a beast...not best looking car but at a mass of 2100kg easy to get to the magic 85% on loads of vans.
Get the ELX with the use of 4 x 4 when needed. Then theres the space .
Even with 7 seats in place there loads of room and a decent boot.
Take out the rear bench seat and use as a 4 seater and the boot is van like at around 3000 litres. It's capacities draws most other cars .... Best of all cheap to by...
Not as good as my discovery 3 but nearly and half the price.. more space and much much cheaper to run... its a towbar bargain"
