Weight

The Nissan Qashqai 1.6 dCi with a Sprite Alpine 2 with an actual weight of 1150 kg is in general a good match and suitable for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

The motor preformance of the Nissan is in general fairly good. And also the weight of the Sprite with a normally distributed User Payload (200 kg in the caravan and 200 kg in the car including passengers), is very good.

Weight

  • The towing limit of the Nissan is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 69%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 80%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 70 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 62 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 191 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is fairly good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Terry Elsmore reviewed a Nissan Qashqai 1.6 dCi:

"Realizing my Nissan Quashquai 1.6 diesel is not the biggest tow car you can buy. I was a bit apprehensive on what I could tow. Purchased a Sterling Eccles Amber second hand and really please with it.
It tows very well, feels very stable and the Alko hitch helps with stability. Pulls well up hills or on the flat, motorways are easy and even without mirror extensions view is good. Was thinking about rear suspension aids but don’t need them just buy a nose weight gauge for about 12 quid and keep the nose weight on the caravan at the tow hitch to about 75kg. Summary. A very good combination!"
