Weight

The Landrover Range Rover Evoque 2.2 SD4 aut. with a Coachman Pastiche 560/4 with an actual weight of 1620 kg is in general a good match and suitable for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

The motor preformance of the Landrover is in general very good. But the weight of the Coachman with a User Payload (155 kg in the caravan and 200 kg in the car including passengers), is quite heavy. Proper and careful loading is essential and don't drive too fast. Remember to load your caravan correctly, insuring that the noseweight of the caravan is sufficient and the weight is distributed properly!

Weight

  • The towing limit of the Landrover is sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E (or B96) driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 82%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 92%.
  • The risk of snaking at higher speeds, strong side winds and thoughtless driving exist. Even if the combination normally feels stable, the forces by deflection side to side are so great that it could be dangerous. Only if the driver has knowledge of and experience in driving a caravan it should be safe to drive. Proper and careful loading is essential! An electronic stability system in the car and / or on the caravan is recommended.
  • Recommended noseweight is 90 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 56 mph (90 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 129 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is very good.
  • Proper and careful loading is still important!
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Ashley reviewed a Landrover Range Rover Evoque 2.2 SD4 aut.:

"Have been towing for over 20 years and also have a class 1 hgv licence, so would like to think I know what makes a good tow car!!
Have been towing with the Evoque for two years now and never once has it put its foot wrong! It's a great tow car with plenty of power being the Sd4 188 bhp model.
You get great stability with the active suspension, yes it's a slightly firmer ride on the 20" wheels however this contributes to the excellent pitch control.
It has a very high 150kg nose weight which really helps for a stable tow.
Even in strong cross winds it's a very stable outfit.
Mine is the 9 speed auto which does have a very low 1st gear and this helps pulling away on hill starts and with 4 wheel drive never get any wheel spin.
The steering wheels gear shift paddles are good as they just give you that bit more control over gear box especially on hills where you can change down a gear ready for climb.
Previously had a discovery 4 and this is easy as good!!
I average towing around 30 mpg and easily hit 40+ solo.
Only negative I would say is the boot is slightly on the small side, however as there is only two of us the rear seats can be lowered if needed.
In the 3 years I have had vehicle it has never let me down unlike the discovery 4 which was always going wrong!!! I have only ever paid for general servicing.
As the 2.2 engine is a ford/Peugeot unit this is probably why it's been good.
Unfortunately the news evoque's use land rovers own engines which are rubbish!!
