For a small engine the 508 does the job well. Average 55mpg without the van, high 20s with it. The auto gearbox isn't great but it's better when towing as you can use the paddles to downshift when you want . Have not towed with anything else so can't make a comparison, but I tow infrequently and am happy to plod along with the van and reap the mpg benefits when not towing. Being an estate it does sag so am fitting rubber spring aids. Also had car remapped to 135bhp + added torque .... looking forward to seeing how it tows with the added grunt.
I have the 140bhp which is not listed, tows the van without effort , average around 30mpg dependant on weather / road conditions. Excellent car.
We have had this car for just one year. Bought second hand at three years old it has just taken us to the Vendee and back on our annual holiday towing a 1400kg caravan. Without the van the car is very economical, for such a large vehicle, averaging around 60mpg on a motorway run at 70mph. However this drops considerably when towing the van and we are lucky to get 25mpg, shown on the computer which I think is inaccurate. The problem appears to be that the car is so high geared that at 60mph the engine is below it's optimal rev band when in top gear. I have tried dropping to fifth but it seems not to make much difference. Apart from this it is a nice car to drive and comfortable for passengers front and rear.
