Towed my Swift Rapide 380 on a 50 mile trip down to Dover for the first time with my 1.4 Roomster. I thought the towing performance was pretty good. I was able to cruise comfortably at 60 for decent periods down the A2 and M2 Motorways and even up that long climb east of Medway bridge I was able to sustain 50 m.p.h in 4th gear.I am an older driver so my focus does tend to be about just' getting there safely' rather than how fast i can get along, but nonetheless with this sort of performance I don't feel that I was guilty holding anyone up.
The Rapide has a miro of 720 kg. and a mass. of 950kg. so I took particular care to load within in the 900kg. limit for the Roomster. The outfit felt very stable even on the return journey when it was quite blustery and I did not feel that I would need to fit a stabilising device. We are returning to caravanning after some years and we had some reservations about doing it with a small car but we are now looking forward to the next outing.
Pulls like a train, towed through France to Spain, and could climb most motorway hills in 5th. Climbed out of Tolosa valley on N1 in 3rd but still doing 50mph! 38-41mpg towing,55-60mpg solo, loads of room but needs cruise contol.
We're recently back from towing our 800kg max weight caravan from Brittany to Ypres in Belgium and back with the Roomster 1.6 Tiptronic. It went really well, taking the Pont de Normandie in it's stride and averaging 22mpg (Solo around 30mpg).
The only difficulty was in getting the caravan nose weight down to 50kg, in the end we carried the awning in the car although it would have been ok in the van if over or just behind the axle.
I TOWED THE CARAVAN FRIST TIME WITH THE ROOMSTER AUT LAST YEAR AND IT WAS BEST.+++++
